In the context of Vilous, the word "Human" describes life which can be recognized as part of a sentient race. Basically, it refers to Sergals, Agudners, and Nevreans (the three Eltus races). The related term "human rights" refers collectively to civil rights which are granted to sentient races.
Eltus races once had a unified physical form almost similar to that of Earth's humans, but that form has been lost since ancient times.
Talyxian-Stalkers are often considered by Eltus species to occupy a middle ground between human and animal. Their high intelligence qualifies them as a sentient race, however, they are treated as lower beings by the Eltus people, as pets or animals. They are not considered 'human' as long as they live their lives as animals. In Gold Ring, after the year RC 70, if they wish to participate in Eltus culture and can mimic Eltus people's lifestyles to a degree, they may be treated as humans, though to obtain legal human rights they must still do so through a civil procedure at the government offices.
